グラフィックデザイナー、田中一光氏の作品をモチーフにするプロジェクトは、田中氏への尊敬と感謝の意を込めるとともに、作品の魅力をより広く伝えるために、2016年から始まりました。
今回のコレクションでは、田中氏のグラフィックの持つ構図そのものを衣服の構造に取り込みました。イッセイ ミヤケの培ってきた技術と融合することで、互いに一着のデザインを構成しています。
田中氏のグラフィックの持つ力強い図像と色彩は、驚きや喜びの感情、そして純粋な好奇心を引き出してくれます。どんな時代においても人々が前に進む力を与えてくれる、IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKEのコレクションです。

田中氏が70年代より描き始めた「ピラミッド」シリーズ。中央に据えられた正三角形に、帯状のグラデーションや、大胆なカラーパレット、意外にも思えるモチーフなどが登場し、それぞれに個性が楽しめます。幾何学的な図形の可能性を実験するかのように、多様な表現の蓄積が見られる作品群です。

Featuring the work of graphic designer Ikko Tanaka, IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE is a project that started in 2016, with respect and appreciation to the designer, to explore and further convey the aesthetic of his creative work.
This collection goes beyond representing Tanaka’s work to integrate his graphic compositions into the construction of the garments—a product of Tanaka’s graphic design and ISSEY MIYAKE’s design and making.
The compelling images and elaborate use of color found in Tanaka’s work bring a sense of joy and wonder and elicit pure curiosity. This collection of IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE embraces the timeless beauty of Tanaka’s work like every past collection, as it invigorates people in their everyday living.

This series of pyramids are selected from a body of Tanaka’s work which he began to create in the 1970s. The work depicts an equilateral triangle at the center in designs full of characters: stripes of colors in gradient, bright, contrasting colors, and sometimes intriguing motifs—suggesting a methodical approach in Tanaka’s exploration of these geometric shapes as he built up a collection of pyramids of diverse expressions.
